March 5, 2021

You would think when you stay home most of the time you could get a lot done.  But it seems the time keeps rushing by me, and I have not done an update for awhile. My daughter has been here several times and Marie is in Florida and doing well.   Another week and we will get our second Covid shot which we are looking forward to.  We have not visited many of our favorite spots, still doing take out and a little outside dining.  We do have almost weekly gatherings with the neighbors to share some grill out and good conversation.  And doing my best to get some golf in, but it seems I can’t find the secret to making my golf game any better!

January was cool for south Florida with lot’s of days in the 60’s and low 70’s, but we did manage to survive.  Our association pool was closed a number of months due to some repairs and then issues found in the seawall on the intercoastal.  That became more annoying as the weather warmed up but eventually a contractor was found to do some repairs and the city finally gave its blessing to move forward.   Now the pool is open and happiness has returned.  The repairs are short term though and in the next 5 years a plan will be needed for some very expensive repairs.  I do like to have repairs done before they become critical so we have put in a new AC unit, south Florida salty air takes its toll on rooftop units and ours was over 10 years old, which is the average life span of the units.  So we won’t have to worry about that while we are not here during the summer. Other than that no major projects this winter just small ‘tinkering’.  I did have a broken tooth extracted and now have an implant in place that is healing, a couple of more months to having a tooth.  Chris had started seeing a chiropractor for her back in Oshkosh, and found one down here that has helped her a lot.  With some exercise she is seeing him once a month and feeling better.  So life remains very good.  We kept track of the cold days up north and had no desire to experience it.  We will continue to live the ‘good life’ and see our Wisconsin friends at the end of May!

Randy, thanks for the update. I always get a good smile when I read them. Keep sending the warm weather up here if you can. In the meantime, I have some good beers and cigars for the next time we connect.

Seems like you are enjoying life and making the best of the pandemic. Nice to have a group of neighbors to socialize with. Still hanging out here in Wisconsin this year, and you did well missing some really cold Temps and lots and lots of snow. But we are grateful for a warm house and family nearby. Talked with Jo Ann on Zoom Thursday and they are enjoying Florida and their friends there as well. Take care and donbe in too big of a hurry to get back. Spring arrives on the 21st but I’m not a believer.

    Hi Randy and Chris
Good to hear you are all doing well. Still haven’t got our Covid shots here yet. Possibly by April. Sure do enjoy getting your blogs, especially this year. Looking at your photos sure brings back good memories and wish we were in them. Oh well, hopefully next year. Say hi to everyone for us.

Hello to All of you too…Marie included..please tell her hello from me.
Yes, we did have some very cold weather with wind chills below zero but we are enjoying the 40’s right now with a possible 50 on Sunday. You know what that means shorts here and tops of cars down. Ha. Not me. It is nice to go out in the early morning for the paper and hear the Spring sound of birds coming back. The critters are waking up, with the first raccoon on the deck and the possum this past week. Trying to wean the deer off of corn now as the field is opening up to the first grasses but they sure like the bread, buns and bakery that I put out. Still working on the new house next to Darrell’s and they finally have garage doors, but can’t figure out why the garage doors are see through. hummm must be something modern. Sue finally retired from her part time job after she broke a finger there doing jobs that she shouldn’t be doing and younger ones just standing around. I hope if Chris, Marie and I can still get together when you all come back that Sue will come also. Always nice to see the ocean pictures and can’t wait to see our lake open again. All take care there, sure trying to stay safe here. I did get both shots, thank goodness for some help with this virus. So do keep in contact and hope to see all of you when you return to Oshkosh. Hugs Barbara

    Hi Randy and Chris.
Glad to hear all is well with y’all. We are both good here also. We’ve managed to keep ourselves busy all winter so far. Actually it’s been a fairly easy winter. We had a little cold spell in February but it’s been sunny most day’s. Our vaccination timeline doesn’t appear to be before April or May.
Say “hello” to everyone for us and hopefully we’ll be there to say it ourselves next year.
    Take care and stay safe.
