Saturday June 28th

We made it through another week.   It started with a great weekend last week.   We spent time with our friends Karen and Al Shanahan in Door County.  Had Sunday breakfast at the White Gull Inn, went to a mass in celebration of a priests 50th anniversary of ordination, and got to spend some time with friends Phil and Judy before leaving Door County.

And as of last weekend all of the main water line and laterals were installed on our road.  And already this week we have been notified that the water is certified and we can arrange hook up with our plumber.  So now we can start planning the next step.  We still have a lot to do with finishing our road.  Some of this whole project started because our road was in such disrepair.   Now we find out the engineering firm is walking away with us holding the bag on a not very satisfying plan of patching the road where the water line was installed.   So after lot’s of discussion and e-mails we have the owner of the construction firm coming out this next week to discuss if he will negotiate another solution with us.   We will see.  Since our road is private, the town can do very little for us and seems to have washed their hands of us.   So we hope for some good replacement now, and the rest of the road prepared so we can put down a good layer of asphalt in 2-3 years when we have more money saved up in our road fund.   So we will be spending more time with this, but can see light at the end of the tunnel.

We also got to see friends Koss’s and Ender’s this week.  We all met at the Fox and Hounds near Holy Hill.   It changed hands last year, they did a lot of cleaning but kept the building as it was.   With all the neat architecture and ambiance of a country road house.  But the menu has changed.  but the food was excellent for all of us.  And the place was packed which was wonderful to see.

And then we started the weekend by meeting good friends at Oblio’s in downtown Oshkosh.  The Rehfeldt’s are in town from Denver.  After a few excellent beers Steve and Nancee came back home with us for a few more and some brats from the grill.  It was a fun night.  We are planning to do it again Tuesday night with Steve and Nancee and a few others.   Right now it looks like it may  not rain Tuesday!

Today has been talking with the neighbors about the road meeting Wednesday night, doing a few chores including washing down the  deck, and right now watching the rain.  A cold front is coming through and the temperature dropping as the rain falls.  Another line of storms moving through, but hopefully it moves quickly before dropping a lot of rain.   The Fox river is still well above flood stage, and the people in Oshkosh still cleaning up after the floods.   So we could miss heavy rains for awhile.   But winds turning West Northwest and the temp dropping, does not look like any boating for a couple of days.  Hopefully next weekend for the 4th!

So hope all are doing well.   I heard my nephew who hosts this site has moved back north into the land of the Vikings.  But hopefully the site stays up and running!  Well maybe the rain is letting up and we will head to church tonight.   Enjoy the weekend and week ahead.
