Sunday June 28th

Yes,  it is wonderful to be in the summer weather!

homebrew-fest-031.jpgLot’s of good things happening, chances for everyone to get outside and enjoy.    We had a good week.  We has some boat rides, even though it has been hot the lake is always enjoyable.  We went to Waterfest one night,   Oshkosh’s weekly outdoor music festival.  And we heard a couple of very good bands (I bought more CD’s)  but headed home before the headliner came on.  Friday mornings I need to be somewhat alert!

Yesterday my homebrew club pulled off their first beer festival.   After a severe setback with the Wisconsin department of Revenue stepping in and telling us we could not serve homebrewed beer or they would come in and confiscate everything, a couple of club members especially stepped up and bought beer from microbreweries across the state.  and the micro breweries stepped up and offered what they could at the discounts available.   It seems like home brew was included in a state law pushed through a couple of years ago by the liquor distributers that makes beer go through distributers and makes it illegal for breweries to donate beer to festivals.   Instead all festivals must buy the beer through distributors.  The bill was fought against by the state association of small breweries headed by Deb Carey from New Glarus,  but was still included in a midnight revision and then passed.   It is also interesting to note that the largest politcal money contributions come from what group? =distributors.

But anyway the festival went off well – I had my doubts.   But it was well organized and run well.   The crowd was smaller than we would have liked, but for a first year and ‘iffy’ weather first guess is we paid for the beer and still will have some money to go to the Kiwani’s charities that we partnered with.    And a good time was had by all.

Much cooler today from the past week.  But very nice.  A strong northwest wind that will probably keep us off the lake.   But it will be nice for doing some projects.   So get out and enjoy!

Great photo, smiles all around. I’m with you on the distributors disgust but I’d like to add road construction contractors to that mix of unhealthy relationships with State legislators. Somebody needs to stand up for the people, but my legs are sore. Any takers?

The problem is, the ones who could change the laws are the ones taking the money!
