Guten Tag! Our trip to Frankfort was uneventful. We had a couple of nice days in the Detroit area with MJ and John, then left Detroit 6 pm Monday, And landed 8:30 am in Frankfort. So we saw the sun set and rise. We tried to catch some sleep on the plane but even during 8 1/2 hours we did not get much. We caught up on some movies and music. The personal tv in the seat in front of you is pretty cool. We were fed twice which was OK. Landing in Frankfort was a fairly short wait to get our passports checked, then found our luggage which all came through OK. Then we had plenty of time to find the train station in the airport. We had tickets for a 12:30 train. So we had some coffee and relaxed, and found our way to the right train platform. We were a little nervous but German trains are on time as advertised and very comfortable. We had a couple of transfers to make to get to Rothenburg we hustled from platform to platform and made it in plenty of time. And I made the girls walk into Rothenburg to find the hotel, they did wonderful all day.
Hotel Eisenhut is very nice and in the middle of the walled city. The first night was early to bed after a couple of beers and a light supper. We all had some trouble sleeping after the first 4 hours, but made it through the night! And today an enjoyable day, even though Germany greeted us with a rainy day. But not rainy enough to stop us from wandering. Some shopping, some Kaffee, even found some German micro beers. We tasted those on rest stops in the room. And had a nice evening meal in an Italian restaurant with Mary Jane’s cousin! Figure that out.
The Germans are treating us well, English speaking almost everywhere. This town started in the 1200’s so pretty neat. So having fun!
Very exciting-nice update–enjoy and safe travels
How did I know that you would manage to find some good German beer?
Dick and I will be leaving for our trailer on Monday, July 14th for about 3 weeks.
Enjoy your trip!
Looks like a cute little German town. I am surprised so many people speak English. That sure makes getting around easier. Enjoy your trip. It looks like you already are finding good places to drink German beer and coffee.
Glad you are enjoying it! Safe travels! Have some good beers for John!:)
Glad you made it safely to the old continent. The weather forecast for next week while you will be staying here in Einsiedeln, where it all started in 1908 with the emigration of father Franz with the two children Johnny and Louise is very promising. So I hope you have your Wanderschuhe(hiking boots) with you. And don’t forget: Swiss beer is stronger than German beer….. By the way, at the moment the temperature is around 40F but next week in the seventies. Looking forward to seeing you here
